Message From Paul Doherty
Hello to SHS '63 classmates.
I hope you don't mind me sending out this message. I have not seen most of you in a quite a while but I need your help. As some of you know, I’m a runner. I started relatively late in life and do it for the challenge, not for the fun (haha – it’s HARD). Participating in races keeps me motivated.
This year, I’ve decided to take it the next level and have signed on to run the New York City Marathon!! The NYC Marathon is among the premier long-distance races in the world. The day of the race will be just 5 months shy of my 70th birthday.
I’m also trying to give back. I will be raising money and running for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT). The Trust works to protect the ecosystems and biodiversity of East Africa through conservation that directly benefits local Maasai communities. MWCT is showing that it doesn't have to be a Nature vs People proposition anymore.
The actor Edward Norton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Norton) is president of the American branch of MWCT. Besides being a fine actor, screenwriter, director and producer, Edward is an environmental and social activist and has, himself, run in the NYC Marathon for the Trust.
I’d like to ask for your support in the challenge I’ve taken on and your help in reaching a goal that I've set for myself to raise $6,000 for the Trust. To contribute, go to http://www.crowdrise.com/MWCTNYC2014/fundraiser/pauldoherty and click on the big orange "DONATE" button. Look for my name in upper left corner of the window that pops so that you'll know your contribution will be credited to my goal. Your contribution is tax deductible.
Thank You and wish me luck!!!
